Maharashtra Dahi Handi Utsav: A senior Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leader and a party worker organized a Dahi Handi event near the busy Kalanagar Junction on Tuesday despite the ban, for which the police have registered an FIR against both of them. The place where the Dahi Handi event was organized in suburban Bandra is located very close to ‘Matoshree’, the residence of Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. The Kherwadi police have registered a case against MNS Vice President Akhil Chitre and party worker Omkar Khandekar.
In a video of the incident, one of the two men is seen standing by the side of the main road and the other sitting on his shoulders and breaking a ‘dahi handi’ (earthen pot filled with curd) tied to a tree trunk. MNS vice-president Akhil Chitre said, “Police registered a case against me and another party worker under Indian Penal Code section 188 (disobedience to order of public servant) and asked us to come to Kherwadi police station. We will complete all the legal formalities.

It is worth mentioning that six FIRs have been registered so far in Kasturba Marg, Ghatkopar, Worli, Kala Chowki, Dadar and Sakinaka police stations of Mumbai, including senior leader and former MLA Bala Nandgaonkar, for organizing Dahi Handi event. Huh. The Chief Minister had last week appealed to the people not to organize Dahi Handi program in view of Corona virus infection. Defying the ban, MNS workers on Tuesday organized ‘Dahi Handi’ programs at various places in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar.
