Syed Ali Shah Geelani Death: Former Hurriyat Conference (G) president and separatist leader Syed Ali Shah Geelani passed away at the age of 92. He breathed his last at 10:30 pm on Wednesday at his residence in Srinagar. He had chest tightness and difficulty in breathing. Former Jammu and Kashmir CM and PDP President Mehbooba Mufti expressed her condolences by tweeting and expressed condolences to the family and well-wishers.
Mehbooba Mufti said, “Saddened by the news of Geelani saheb’s demise. We couldn’t agree on most things but I respect him for standing firm and with convictions. May Allah grant him paradise and condolences to his family and well wishers.”

Geelani was ailing for a long time and was under house arrest at his Hyderpora residence since 2008. Last year, he announced his resignation as the president of Hurriyat Conference (G). Syed Ali Shah Geelani was born on 29 September 1929. He was the separatist leader of Jammu and Kashmir. He was earlier a member of Jamaat-e-Islami Kashmir but later founded Tehreek-e-Hurriyat. He also served as the president of the All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), a group of pro-separatist parties in Jammu and Kashmir. He was MLA from Sopore constituency of Jammu and Kashmir in 1972, 1977 and 1987. He had stepped down as the head of Hurriyat Conference in June 2020.
